Picture the Music!!!

Picture the music!

This is a project we did for a contest put on by the St. Louis Symphony!  This is their 30th year in hosting this amazing competition in which students listen to a piece of music, written by a famous composer, and they make a piece of art about it!  This year the composer was Khachaturian and his piece of music, Masquerade Suite, movement 5, the waltz.

Each school is only allowed to enter 7 pieces of art, with over 12,000 students participating at over 60 schools from around the St. Louis area.  Out of 7 pieces, the FGC has 4 in the top 100 of the competition.

These students artworks will be in a traveling art show around STL this spring, and will be recognized at an awards ceremony in March.

Everyone's artwork was individually unique and beautiful!  Check them out :)

WEAVINGS!

WEAVINGS!!!

Our second project of the school year was weaving!  Students used cardboard looms to pull a warp.  They sketched out designs and then started weaving with various colors of yarn.  Students could use a variety of techniques, such as Rya, closed slot weaves, open slot weaves and add beads to create their designs.  After they finished their weaving, they cut them off the loom, tied knots and used sticks to hang them.
